  • Setting up your signature

What is the signature for? After you have registered, you may set your signature. This is a piece of text that you would like to be inserted at the end of all your posts, a little like having headed note paper.

If the administrator has enabled signatures, then you will have the option to include your signature on any posts you make. If you have specified a signature, then the forum will automatically append your signature to any messages you post. You can disable signatures on a per-post basis by un-ticking the 'Show Signature' checkbox when you compose your message.

You may turn the signature on and off on posts you have already made by editing the post and altering the state of the 'Show Signature' option.

You can set your signature by editing your profile.
The NRA says, 'Guns don't kill people - people kill people.' That may be true, but I think the gun helps. You're not going to kill many people by standing around shouting 'bang!'.

Yes you can. Just go to the UserCP link at the top of the forum, click on Edit Signature on the left, and you will see an option to upload a signature picture. The specifics on how big the picture may be and what type of picture it can be are listed there. One thing to keep in mind when uploading pictures, if there is a space in the file name, before the file extension, it may not upload. So before you upload pictures, make sure you take out any spaces in the file name on your computer first.

I am not 100% on these actually. I want people to personalize as much as possible, but adding pics to the sigs makes it real hard for dial up surfers to get on. You can try and add one, but I might not allow them if it makes the site slow for some.

Any feedback on the subject is welcome.

I am on dial up...they don't slow me down...and I for one love sig images...if they are not allowed it really doesn't make any difference to me...it won't keep me from visit the Pond...

That being said...I would suggest that the board has some sig image guidelines in place...in fact it already does...I wish it was a little more than the 19K it is I think...that is more then enough for avatars but for a really cool signature image custom made with the GIMP or photoshop one will need around 40K I think (I'll have to check on that)...

I am curious on people's opinions and ideas about this topic myself...

Personally, I think that an avitar, plus a profile picture is sufficient, especially if having a picture in the sig line slows things down for some. On the pro-board, it was a little disconcerting to sort through all the images to find what had been posted. I realize this site will be more conducive to them - just do what you think is best for everyone. Like Ed said, either way won't make any difference to me. It sure won't keep me from coming to this place.

I want to add that any big file no matter if it is a sig or just an IMG tagged pic within a post is going to slow a dial up connection down hence the need for guidelines...and just wait till somebody starts a captioning thread that is popular...hahahha

I have differing opinions on the signature pics. If they are large and flashy, it really takes away from the purpose of the forum, which is discussions. If they are simple and low key, not so bad. But they do take more time to load the page, and they also take up server space. Just my .02

                    Sig Images

I not a big fan of sig images. They seem to get bigger the the message they are attach to. After you see it once who want to see it a 100 times. Put your image in your profile and everone will know who it belongs to.
Just my thought on the subject.
